Ferrigen™

Ferrigen™ is a family of self-assembling nanoparticle technologies that exploit the biology of ferritin, a multimeric, macromolecular protein present in virtually all organisms and important in iron storage, to produce recombinant fusion proteins with target immunogens (ferritin nanoparticles). The functions of the protein fusion products are manifold and can include applications such as vaccines, therapeutics, novel metal chelating systems, gelling agents, protein purification platforms, image contrast agents, drug delivery, and many other applications. Ferrigen™ can be applied in human and veterinary therapeutic applications as well as numerous non-therapeutic applications.

One application currently under development is FerriVax™, a vaccine platform that includes ferritin-HIVtat, an orally active vaccine candidate with a demonstrable strong and prolonged immune response to tat that has biological activity against HIV, inhibiting replication in vitro. The Company's HIV application was recently published and featured on the cover of Industrial Biotechnology (July 2006).
